Part of the chamber’s purpose to educate the business community, and represent member organizations in town, county, state, and national legislative and political matters involves providing information in these areas. Additionally, legislative topics including information concerning bills before the Legislature, public hearings, and the like, are posted in this page's right-hand column. Since these posting change from time-to-time, please note any bill number or other identifing information that may be used to follow the items' activity in the Maine State Legislature.

Aroostook County, Board of County Commissioners, District 1 covers the following municipalities:
Amity, Bancroft, Blaine, Bridgewater, Cary Plantation, Crystal, Dyer Brook, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Glenwood Plantation, Hammond, Haynesville, Hersey, Hodgdon, Houlton, Island Falls, Linneus, Littleton, Ludlow, Macwahoc Plantation, Mars Hill, Merrill, Monticello, Moro Plantation, New Limerick, Oakfield, Orient, Oxbow Plantation, Reed Plantation, Sherman, Smyrna, Weston, the unorganized territory of Benedicta and the unorganized territories of Central and Southern Aroostook.

Maine State Legislature - Senate District 34 covers the following municipalities:
Aroostook County - Amity, Ashland, Bancroft, Blaine, Bridgewater, Cary Plantation, Squapan Twp., St. Croix Twp., Webbertown Twp., Dudley Twp., Cox Patent, E Plantation – E R-2, Chapman, Crystal, Dyer Brook, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Glenwood Plantation, Hammond, Haynesville, Hersey, Hodgdon, Houlton, Island Falls, Linneus, Littleton, Ludlow, Macwahoc Plantation, Mars Hill, Masardis, Merrill, Monticello, Moro Plantation, New Limerick, Oakfield, Orient, Oxbow Plantation, Presque Isle, Reed Plantation, Sherman, Smyrna, Benedicta Twp., Molunkus Twp., Silver Ridge Twp., Forkstown Twp., Upper Molunkus Twp., N. Maine State Legislature - Representative District 6 covers the following municipalities:

LD 1495

LD 1495 - An Act To Implement Tax Relief and Tax Reform was passed June 2009 and will become effective January, 2011. A People’s Veto of LD 1495 will be voted on in June, 2010. Impact to tourism: Increases meal & lodging tax from 7% to 8.5%. Pros: Provide more funding for our tourism program and Aroostook County Tourism.
